This memorial, surrounded by rosemary for remembrance is dedicated to those who fought in Australia’s longest 20th century war: Vietnam. 60,000 service personnel – regulars and conscripts- served in Vietnam between 1962 and 1975; over 500 died and 3000 were wounded.
This memorial also honours those who served in Korea, Malaya, Borneo and also in peacekeeping forces and on operational and hazardous service elsewhere.
The free standing plaques on the left and right both commemorate the Battle of Long Tan on August 18, 1966. This date is now officially recognised as Vietnam Veterans Day.
