The Merri River lies to the west of the city, meandering through wetlands before emerging at Stingray Bay, in the Thunder Point Coastal Reserve.
The Merri is regarded as one of Victoria’s finest brown trout streams, so anglers, bring your rod and tackle.
The true majesty of this river can only be truly realised by kayak or canoe, where you will be sharing the water with ample birdlife and even platypuses that make their homes on the tranquil riverbanks.
Boats are best launched at the Dennington Boat Ramp, which has a floating jetty and carpark facilities.
