Lake Pertobe is home to some unique flora, both in the water and around the lake edges. Recently Naja marina Spiny water nymph was discovered living in Lake Pertobe. This is only the second recorded sighting of this plant in Victoria. The first sighting being back in 1978 in East Gippsland. Goodenia radicans Shiny Swamp-mat is rarely found in Warrnambool but enjoys the salty coastal conditions of Lake Pertobe. Flora, like these offer unique habitat and food for our local insects and wildlife, and helps to improve water quality.
